Are the funksoerung boys still at it ?
I cannot Believe these boys are still alive, and still playing the same
records in the set, jesus its shocking, funkstoerung have created nothing,
there contribution toward electronica has only helped encourage more clones
!
There used to ba a time when Electronic Music was interesting and now im
reduced to the Charts.
I mean to go and see funkstoerung DJ is pointless, at least if AE were to DJ
they might play something from the past which might act as real reference
material whatever the funksoerung boys pull out of the bag its always goning
to be a pale immitation of AE (Shame).

Subject: [idm] funkstoerung in SF last night....
Date: Fri, 13 Oct 2000 12:04:40 -0700 (PDT)
Well, it went a little like this:
The show started with a couple of DJs that really didn't play anything I
liked. Saftey Scissors followed with a laptop/DSP set and was really
good... I got bored a couple of times, but I liked it and recommend
checking him out if you ever get the chance.
So Funkstoerung was like this:
Deluca on the 1s and 2s, Fakesch on a Laptop and some sort of electronic
device(s) that I couldn't see. It was really hard to tell just what the
fuck was going on, but it was obvious that the two of them were up to
something :) It was like live remixing, or something, I dunno... heh.
<rant>
What the FUCK is up with clubs playing STUPID FUCKING VIDEOS behind bands?
I came to see the BAND, not to watch AN ANCIENT TAPE OF LIQUID TV
(featuring the early Beavis and Butthead "Frog Baseball" clip) or a REALLY
SHITTY ANIME MOVIE. Would you expect to see BEAVIS and motherfucking
BUTTHEAD at a Funkstoerung show? Well, the Justice League was full of
surprises last night. Anyway, my point is, it's fucking DISTRACTING, and
it SUCKS when a club shows random video behind a band. If any of you have
clubs, please remember that VIDEOS SUCK - ARRRGH! Unless, of course, the
band/DJ/whatever PUT THE VIDEO TOGETHER. Thank You.

Anyway, back to the show: It was nearly as cool as the one at Cat's Alley
a few years ago (they actually played at that one, or flipped a lot of
switches and twisted knobs at least) but it was fun. After they finished
their "set" Deluca spun some records while Fakesch sort of hung out on
stage and nodded his head.
He played Gescom ("Keynell") and a few fists flew up in the air (which
probably would have been a good way to find all the IDM listmembers in the
crowd.) I have to admit that I fucking love going to these IDM gigs when
a DJ plays some weirdo record that you've never heard anywhere but in your
bedroom (or the only time you've heard it at a club is when you played it)
and fists start to fly... maybe it's just me :)
Chris Deluca played a LOT of other Ae/Gescom remixes and shit. Almost
everything I heard (we cut out at like 1:30 since Kiya had copiers to
attend to early this morning.) I was looking forward to seeing the
reaction on the list today, I'm sort of surprised that there wasn't any.
Some people I talked to at the show were calling it lame of them to play
all of those Ae records; "First they rip them off and now they're playing
NOTHING BUT GESCOM! DUUUUUDE!!!!"
I don't think it's lame at all, those Ae records are *good* you know?
Maybe they were taking the piss, maybe they lost their crates full of Lisa
Lisa and Cult Jam and were forced to borrow wax from some Spock-ear
wearing IDM-list person... maybe they felt like listening to it... who
cares anyway, it was fun... I say go see them if you get the chance.
